I think one of your last statements is something most people forget. To move forward on any kind of project you have to allow time to not only DO but also to THINK 👏

I'm going to come across like a "stick in the mud" here, but what about when one person is so far below the other members in terms of writing sophistication? i.e. their writing is perhaps at a high school level, while the rest of the group is at a level perhaps above uni level? and also, the group hesitates to give that person genuine feedback, and tells them their writing is fantastic???

Goal is to forward manuscript. Have it critiqued, and to receive illustrator and edited advisory, on a less than than ten page book ( presumably ) Thank You for your valued time. Appreciative of your willingness to aid and assist.

Whether you self-publish or hire a publisher, you will pay for an illustrator unless you do the illustrations yourself. Illustrators don't come cheap. A publisher and illustrator can make a lot of money off you while you make zero.

Most of our group members are sticks in the mud. We allow them to ask questions and discuss their feedback within their allotted time. It makes a positive difference for all of us. Many times, we don't understand what the author is trying to say, so the discussion helps the author figure out what isn't working and how they need to fix it, even if it's not what was suggested. If we don't understand what the author was trying to convey, or if the author doesn't understand the feedback, it's wasted time for everyone. Our members are devoted to the group because it's helped us win contests, get published, etc.

Just looking on the Query Tracker site now and considering going premium. I'm in the UK, does QT feature for UK agents and publishers or is it focused only/mainly on the USA. A second question is, how can I distinguish between good, well connected and organized, energetic and pro active agents and agencies/agents who just take on clients and send out your book to publishers but aren't that dynamic in fighting for you (I just assume there are the two types).

I usually extrapolate stories from music, and I’m only now realizing how that may help keep my mind muscles built thanks to you! I never thought things so simple could do that. Ps: if anyone wants a good jumping off point for doing something similar, I find the album Worlds by porter Robinson has a lot of different flavors!

That was an interesting tip about the Epson printer (which I'm lucky to already have). Also, I just saw the definition of a spread to be two facing pages. If a spread has to be under 11" x 15", does that mean each page is that size? ~ Because if you have two facing pages of 8" x 10", you have 8" x 20", which is bigger than 11" x 15". Conversely, if you fold an 11" x 15" sheet of paper in half, you get 11" x 7-1/2" (smaller than 11" x 8"). I'd appreciate your clarification if you can. Thanks so much.
